Maui sunsets...just like back home, except with more ocean and palm trees.

Topics:

Our boss, "Java Jack," will soon be ending his vacation in the tropical paradise of Maui and heading back home to Saskatchewan. He sent us these photos, saying he's going to miss seeing these sunsets. We told him we have sunsets every bit as spectacular and breathtaking here in Saskatchewan, "the land of living skies." We just have to PhotoShop in the ocean and palm trees. …

How Thomas Edison Invented Film Piracy.

Topics:   Java Blog

Believe it or not, film piracy goes way back before BitTorrent and those FBI warnings at the beginning of every DVD and Blu-ray disc. As this great Film School'D video from CineFix explains, ripping off films is as old as film itself. Piracy not only changed the movies...it built the movies.

Thinking Warm Maui Thoughts On A Frigid Regina Day.

Topics:   Java Blog

So while we back at the Java Post office are freezing our whatzits off in frigid Regina, Saskatchewan, our boss shared this image with us, taken this morning on his walk along the beach in Maui. Words cannot express just how jealous we are. I mean, a rainbow, too? Like the sand, sun, surf, and sailboat wasn't enough? Someone get our travel agent on the line.

Throwback Thursday: Corner Gas Season One

For today's "Throwback Thursday" post, we thought we'd share with you this poster that proudly hangs (or is it "hangs proudly"...well, it definitely hangs, we're certain about that) in the hallway at the Java Post Production office. It's from the first season of the Corner Gas television series, back in 2004. For fans of the show, you'll remember the first…

This was too hilarious not to share. As anyone who has ever worked in the television news, documentary or commercial business can tell you, "B-Roll" is the term for video footage that typically appears over a narrator's voice. It's not a spokesperson or interview subject speaking on camera. That's called A-Roll. B-Roll is all the other stuff. For example, when a reporter is…

It's nice to see that our boss, "Java Jack" Tunnicliffe, is maintaining a healthy lifestyle while he's on vacation. That tall, cool, refreshing umbrella drink must contain lots of good, wholesome things. Why, there's a slice of fresh pineapple right there on the rim of the glass. That drink is practically a salad already! And we're sure there are healthy juices in there,…

(Click on the "related project" video above to watch the test flight.) Below you…

Coping with Winter the Java Post way: Sun, Sand, and Drinks with Little Umbrellas.

Topics:

With this Saskatchewan winter feeling like it may never end, and the coming of spring taking on an almost mythic, bygone-age status, our boss "Java Jack" has found the best way to cope is with a liberal dose of Maui island life: sun, sand, and drinks with little umbrellas in them. Being the thoughtful guy that he is, Jack sent along the morning view from his room for the Java staff to…

Freezing our drones off at minus 40C for K+S Potash
