SGI commercial behind-the-scenes Part 6
Topics: Java Blog
Today's web post takes us to part six of our behind-the-scenes look at the production of the recent road safety commercial that Java Post Production made with Phoenix Group for SGI (Saskatchewan Government Insurance). See the Related Project Video to watch the finished commercial.
Our shoot wraps up inside the Canada Saskatchewan Production Studios in Regina, shooting against green screen backgrounds.
Director Stephen Hall (right, in blue checked shirt) leans in to give performance tips to a pair of actors who will be depicting drivers enjoying some (ahem) "jazz musician cigarettes," shall we say. We will assume that Stephen is passing along purely theoretical knowledge, gleaned entirely from library books.
Our makeup artist gives our actors a few final touch ups. Because the last thing you want when you're driving stoned is a shiny forehead.
As we did in some of our other set-ups, we removed the doors on the vehicles in order to get the camera closer to our actors.
Of course, we could also just put our camera operator, Todd Irving, right on top of the car.
Yikes! Now there's a sight no driver wants to see coming through his windshield. But Todd and the super-slow-motion Phantom Flex 4K camera go where we need them to go to get the shot. Trust us, this isn't the strangest place Todd has been...not by a long shot. Or even by a medium close-up shot.
In this photo, you see one of our young actors preparing, with the air of her father, to jump off a chair onto a padded landing mat. This shot will be layered together with several other green-screen elements and the final result will be the dramatic moment you see below.
Stay tuned for our seventh and final installment of our behind-the-scenes look at the production of the recent road safety commercial for SGI.
