At the Academy Awards last Sunday night, the space movie "Gravity" was awarded the Oscar for visual effects. In this 5-minute video, you get an in-depth (pardon the 3D pun) look at one brief shot from the movie, illustrating the complexity of combining live-action camera footage, computer-generated images and mathematics to create a final, believable three-dimensional shot.
The computer guys narrating the video sometimes get a little heavy with the "tech-talk," but the video is a great example of all the skill and "skull sweat" that goes into making movie magic for just a few seconds of screen time.
